- WHAT WE ARE DOING
We help to get children in need off the streets and into a safe environment
India Children's Ministries is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization started in 2011 after Tim Dobbs took a trip to India to visit missionaries supported by his local church in Midland, Texas. As someone who has traveled to numerous third world countries, he had a rough idea of what to expect but knew that all countries are different. The poverty level was about the same as many other countries he had visited. He noticed two things that immediately set India apart: the sheer amount of people living in poverty, and the things being done to them because of it.
Human trafficking and slavery is something that goes on all over the world, yet many are still unaware of it. The particular area of India Tim was in is known for trafficking people—mostly children—from Nepal into India. Parents, if children have them, are desperate to keep themselves and/or their children alive, so many actually sell their children into slavery in the hopes that the children will be fed. Many other children are simply picked up off the streets, where they had been sent to beg for food or find work. Often, what ends up happening to these enslaved children—some of whom are as young as five years old—is a fate worse than death. Most are turned into sex slaves and sent all over India to work in brothels, where they will face a life of rape, abuse, poverty, and sexual exploitation. The children that avoid forced prostitution are kept as domestic slaves, doing everything from house work to factory work. They are fed very little and forced to work exhausting hours.
After Tim went and saw the urgency to get these children off the streets and into a safe environment, he started the non-profit organization India Children's Ministries, which is dedicated to giving children shelter, food, medicine, clothes, and education. The way we plan to do this is to join the missionary who is already there, Dimbeswar Burman. He began a small orphanage called the Ruth Gunther Center a few years ago and needs help building, growing, and maintaining the facility so that more children can be taken in. We will build children's centers where the children will be housed until they graduate from school.-
